Uber
Uber published details of its in-house AI code reviewer (uReview). In 2026 the CTO said the strongest adoption came from engineers experimenting, not from a top-down push. No mandate has been reported.[1][2]
Tools
- uReview (internal)[1]
- Claude 4 Sonnet (comment generator)[1]
- OpenAI o4-mini-high (grader)[1]
- Internal coding agent[2]
- Claude Code[3]
Metrics tracked
- Uber measures the usefulness rate (developer ratings), the share of comments addressed in the same changeset, and estimated review hours saved.[1]
- CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga said in March 2026 that 95% of engineers use AI monthly, and that Uber's internal agent writes about 1,800 code changes a week entirely, up from under 1% to 8% of all changes.[2]
- CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in May 2026 that roughly 10% of code changes come from autonomous agents.[3]
Guardrails
- Comments go through multi-stage filtering (confidence grading, deduplication and category suppression) before posting. The tool was rolled out gradually with precision and recall dashboards.[1]
- Agent-written changes have 'zero human authoring', but engineers review and approve them before they merge.[2][3]
Hiring, reviews & process changes
- Code review changed: an AI reviewer now runs on every commit in CI across all six of Uber's monorepos, in addition to human review.[1]
- Uber said in May 2026 that it is slowing hiring to fund AI investment. The CTO said it had already spent its 2026 Claude Code budget.[3]
Reported results
- uReview analyzes over 90% of Uber's ~65,000 weekly diffs. Engineers mark 75% of its comments useful, and 65%+ are addressed, versus 51% for human comments.[1]
- Uber estimates uReview saves about 1,500 hours each week, nearly 39 developer-years a year.[1]
